From the moment I was crowned Miss Mississippi Crown’s Outstanding Teen, my life was changed. These past eighteen months have been incredibly eye-opening, and they have offered me so many opportunities to grow, learn, and spread awareness for the things that I believe in. My time as an MMC Queen has helped me find who Emma really is, and it has helped me find a deep connection with not only myself but with those around me.
Though I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to compete in the Miss Illinois’ Outstanding Teen Competition this summer, I have decided that it would be best for me to relinquish my title. At this time, I am finishing out my last semester of senior year and preparing to go off to college in a few short months, and making sure I’m adequately prepared for this change in my life is of utmost importance to me and my family.
Though this is a very bittersweet ending, I can forever say that I was part of one very historical and brave class of women who got to serve our communities for an extra year. To Stacy, Nicole, Olivia, Isha, and the entire MMC board, I am forever thankful to have had the chance to get to know such determined, poised, and kind women. You all have shaped me more than you know. This past year has been very unpredictable as a titleholder, but it has surely been a year to remember. Despite it all, I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to serve as your Miss Mississippi Crown’s Outstanding Teen. This is surely not the end of my time in the Miss Illinois Organization, as this is not a good-bye, but a “see you later.” For the last time, I am, and always will be, your Miss Mississippi Crown’s Outstanding Teen 2020, Emma Widick
